Every day at Cracker Box Palace, animals arrive with stories that require compassion, expertise, and immediate action.

Since September, our team has faced a series of urgent medical situations—each one unexpected, each one essential to the well‑being of the animals entrusted to us.

In just a few months, we have:

• Provided end‑of‑life care for two elderly horses, ensuring they passed peacefully and without suffering. Cost: $1180.00

• Taken Pumba- our beloved mini-pig- to Cornell for advanced diagnostics, where after 3 days of testing revealed a condition that could not be treated. We made the heartbreaking decision to let her go with dignity. Cost: $5440.00

• Rescued Squirt from a meat farm, immediately engaging our veterinarian for emergency care. When her condition worsened, we transported both Squirt and her companion Apache to Cornell for a life‑saving blood transfusion. Today, both are thriving. Cost: $1975

• Rushed Notorious PIG to Cornell after rapid weight loss and no availability from local veterinarians. Diagnostics revealed a condition requiring specialized nutrition and close monitoring. He is now gaining weight and recovering steadily. Cost: $490.00

 

These cases represent the heart of our mission—but they also represent unplanned medical expenses far beyond our normal veterinary budget. The financial strain is real, and it threatens our ability to respond quickly when the next animal needs urgent care.
