September 25, 2008 : RESCUE
the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Anita Reed, (47), of Arcadia for five counts of Animal Cruelty. Reed was arrested following the investigation into an incident at her address where patrols responded to a report of horses observed in the roadway in front of the residence. Upon arrival, the animals appeared to be malnourished.

Cracker Box Palace’s Large Animal Rescue Team (LART) was called into service again by Wayne County law enforcement agencies to assist in the rescue of 11 horses, over 2 dozen dogs, chickens, ducks, a goat, donkey, rabbits, and chinchillas from a small farm in Sodus.On the scene were the Wayne County Animal Cruelty Investigators, Wayne County Sheriffs, the Wayne County District Attorney, the Wayne County Humane Society, and the Monroe County Humane Society. Cracker Box Palace took in the horses, donkey, and goat; Palace partner and NYS registered wildlife rehabilitator “Krittr Kris” Forsythe was on scene to assist and took the rabbits and chinchillas into her care. The Humane Societies took in the cats, dogs, and fowl. 15 of the dogs were Bassett Hound puppies around 10 weeks of age, along with a Chihuahua and her two very young puppies. All agencies on scene lauded the skill and proficiency of The Palace’s LART volunteers in their rescue efforts and the turnout of these volunteers with their own trucks and trailers, and rescue equipment that has been purchased through fundraisers and grants.... more
