During your tour be sure to stop in the bunk house to view the hand-made “derbies” which are in keeping with the tradition of the Kentucky Derby where the hats range from fantastic to the sublime. A silent auction for the hats will be held throughout the day and bidding will stop at 2:30 pm. Also on display this year is the Everybody Rides Horses on Parade; an exhibit of hand painted ceramic horses that will raise funds for the Everybody Rides therapeutic riding program and other charities in our area. Lyons Masonic Lodge will be present with their Child Identification Program too.
The Pre-Race Celebration will kick off at 2:30 pm after everyone has bid on and won their Derby Hat for the afternoon. You’ll most certainly want to stay for the Cracker Box Palace Kazoo Band! They will perform our national anthem and My Old Kentucky Home for the celebration. Bring your kazoo if you’d like to join in! We will also have the Parade of Ponies as they enter the race track. Meet the ponies and the jockeys before the race!
The Derby party will begin at 3:00 with finger foods, non-alcoholic mint juleps, and an action packed pony race. The betting window will open at noon till 2:30pm so be sure to bring your $2.00 and place your bets on which pony (and walking jockey) will wear the garland of roses.
